Trend: POLKA DOTS
This is a gem of a shirt from Zara. It is a bit more expensive than their usual shirts at £69.99 but it is a classic colour combination and will look equally as great with jeans as with your working wardrobe.
Updater: SPORTY TROUSERS
Sports wear makes some sort of appearance every season and I believe it will only become more prominent as the years go on. These Whistles trousers are a gorgeous grown-up nod to the trend without feeling like you've left the house in your tracksuit bottoms.
Yet again yellow is a trend that shows no sign of slowing up. If you don't think yellow suits you then it will most definitely look fabulous on your feet.
Florals never really go away but every season they are tweaked just a bit. This season a small floral pattern will see you right through unit summer.
These shorts are a very cute way to wear gingham without looking like a picnic blanket.
I LOVE this dress. This one has made it into my summer wardrobe and I can't wait to wear it. This is meant to be slightly oversized and floaty but I sized down as that kind of look doesn't work for me. I also did away with the underslip but that's just personal preference.
The slingback always makes me think of the 80s but it has certainly stood the test of time and been the cornerstone of many a shoe wardrobe for decades. These beauties from Zara have a touch of the Carrie Bradshaws about them and will look as good with cropped jeans as they will with your summer event dress.
This is a special occasion dress if ever I saw one. If you are off to any weddings, christenings or Royal Ascot this summer then this dress (and this brand, RIXO) should be on your radar. It is quite low at the front so just add a camisole underneath if you need more coverage.
You literally cannot move for slogan tops this season. If you've got something to say then emblazon it across your chest and be proud. This Whistles t-shirt also comes in white. Wear with a pencil skirt and a denim jacket.
ME+EM are a relatively young company specialising in beautifully made classics with a twist. This tie-front blazer is an investment piece and one you will wear over and over again. Wear with jeans for a smart weekend lunch or over a jumpsuit for dinner.
Pink is my favourite colour so I am overjoyed as its front and centre staging this season. These Topshop sandals have a manageable 3" heel in a cool perspex and the pink suede is gorgeous. Team with cropped jeans or a floral dress to take you right through to your summer holidays.
Embroidered jeans are a great way to update your casual wardrobe. These ones from M&S are a flattering skinny fit and are subtle enough to wear every day. If you want to go all out with your embroidery then Zara have some amazing pairs.
Oh, how I love thee. These J Crew earrings are just gorgeous and come in four bright, happy colours (and black). Statement earrings have taken over from the statement necklace as the centrepiece in your jewellery box and these beauties will bring life to any outfit.
Velvet was all over the place in AW16 and it is taking on a summery vibe this season with updates in pastels and metallics. This Warehouse gem will work equally well with distressed jeans and a bomber or a blazer and smart trousers. Also available in pale pink.
Stripes are always a winner as they are so versatile, go with everything and look stylish to boot. Menswear inspired stripes are leading the pack this season with every updater imaginable from ruffles to statement sleeves to florals. Anything goes so be as bold as you dare. This J Crew top isn't exactly pushing any fashion boundaries but it has a gorgeous bell sleeve and will work hard for you and your wardrobe.
I like a ruffle as much as the next person but they don't suit everyone when added to clothing as they can add width and fuss when not required. These black mules from Office are a great alternative to a plain black sandal. They are also available in pale pink. I think the black pair would look super with the yellow cropped M&S trousers.
The cropped trouser has been hanging around for a while now but everyone will be getting their ankles out this spring. I think these yellow trousers from M&S are a great way to inject some colour into your wardrobe while updating your look. I would pair them with navy or black to tone the colour down a notch or white if you want to shout it from the roof tops. Ideally wear your crops with a heel to elongate the leg but a flat with a low front (as shown here) will also work.
Give it a couple of weeks and you won't be able to move for pink things in the shops. I absolutely love pink so I'm utterly thrilled but for those that find it a little saccharine and girly go for a deeper shade and update your accessories. I will most definitely be diving headfirst into the trend but a bag is a great way to just dip your little toenail in if that is more your thing. This beauty from Oasis can be personalised! The monogram gods are smiling down on us all.
These lovely earrings from Whistles are a great way to incorporate the fringing trend into your wardrobe. They are also available in orange and there is currently 20% off everything at Whistles so fill your basket.
You cannot move for slogans. They are on everything from bags to t-shirts to sweatshirts as showcased by this top from Set. It comes in three colours but this is my favourite and it is on my wish list. Set has been around for about 8 years and has some great contemporary basics with an edgy twist. Take a look.
Essential: DROP EARRINGS
Botanical prints have always been a favourite of mine and these palm earrings from Whistles are just gorgeous. At only £20 they would make a great gift or a treat for yourself just because.
Gingham is such a happy fabric but can sometimes be a bit too girly. This dress from Warehouse has a no-nonsense shape which gives it a slight edginess. Wear layered over a shirt or polo neck now and go for sandals for spring.
Updater: BLOCK HEEL
The block heel has been around for a couple of seasons now and while the kitten heel has been sneaking back into the shops, the easy height and comfort factor of the chunky heel means it is here to stay. These Mint Velvet sandals are a classic colour and style and will look great with turned up jeans. If you are going to wear with a skirt or dress make sure the ankle strap flatters.
Every year it's around and every year they think of something different to call it. This time around it's utility. Or military. Or whatever. It just means there's some khaki and some pockets. This M&S skirt is a great price and styled with white trainers and a striped men's shirt you'll be good to go.
Trend: TIE SLEEVES
Last summer it was all about showing off your shoulders and this year it's about cuffs. Any tie detail or exaggerated sleeve is in so be as bold as you dare. This Warehouse top is a nice gentle introduction which won't break the bank and updates the classic striped top.
Pretty much every colour is making an appearance for SS17 so throw on the whole rainbow if you fancy it. This dress from M&S is a gorgeous sunny yellow. Do give yellow a try if it's a new colour for you as it's much more flattering than you might think. Add the blue J Crew bag for a real Crayola moment.
As far as I'm concerned pink is always in but some years it just seems to be everywhere. 2017 is one of those years. There is a lot of blush pink about and this coat is a classic shape from Topshop. Take care not to blend into the background if you are blonde and/or pale skinned. A bright lip will do the trick.
Another piece featuring embroidered detail, this French Connection Argento jumper will look great with jeans or a pencil skirt. Layer over a denim shirt for some much needed winter warmth.
Essential: CAMERA BAG
Small and practical yet big enough to hold all your everyday essentials, this Signet bag from J. Crew is available in a range of delicious colours.
Updater: SPORTS LUXE
The elevated sports look re-appears every season under a slightly different name but it all boils down to the same thing: it is now acceptable to be seen in trainers. In order to look like you haven't just stepped out of the gym go for luxury versions of tracksuit bottoms and trainers. They don't need to be expensive but quality is the key here. Please don't just pull on your running shoes and trackies and think you've got this look nailed....
Updater: PYJAMA JACKET
The pj look has been around for a couple of seasons now and is filtering down to the majority of the High Street brands. The tie detail is great for cinching in the waist and this floral pattern will look great on anyone who wants to break up their top half. Team with cropped blue jeans and heels for a lovely lunch look.
Essential: MANNISH COAT
This style of coat, the mannish crombie, is around year in, year out and is a great wear-with-anything option. It will take you from the office to drinks to weekends to everything in between. I am particularly loving the colour of this Topshop one as I love anything pink and pink is also a key colour this season.
Updater: TIED SLEEVES
Stripes are always on trend but give yours a more modern twist by incorporating a tie detail. This could be at the waist or at the wrist or both as this M&S beauty proves.
This cardi from New Look is so Gucci I simply cannot resist it. As there is a lot going on keep the rest of your look simple. Or you could channel the Gucci runway and clash with every print, texture and colour under the sun.
This kimono is part of Ted Baker's covetable swimwear collection but pack this in your suitcase and it'll be an essential part of your holiday wardrobe. Throw over your bikini at the beach or wear with denim shorts and a white vest during the day. Keep it belted to show off your waist.
Essential: SHOE BOOT
Sometimes you come across a shoe that goes with everything. It has just the right heel height, is just the right colour and is so comfortable. When you stumble upon such a wonder then snap it up I say. These Spider shoes are from Sargossa and I purchased them from a lovely little boutique in Berkhamsted called Amelie. Now I just need the rain to stop.....
Trend: BOLD PRINT
If you are looking for a hardworking dress this summer then look no further than Whistles. This bold floral print sleeveless number will work equally well dressed down with espadrilles as it will glammed up with heeled sandals. Pop a jacket over the top to smarten up the look or team with a cropped denim jacket for a laid-back summer vibe. I've already ordered mine - 21st May '16
I just don't seem to be able to stop loving coloured lace at the moment. This cute little top from Zara is a great way to add some colour and texture to your look. Layer over a vest with cropped trousers or pair with shorts. Add a slip dress underneath and some flat sandals for an alternative day look - 18th May '16
These J Crew rose gold pumps are just divine. Yes they are a bit pricey but metallics are a great way to update your accessories and they co-ordinate with every colour. This shoe has a good heel height too so will work from day to night - 17th May '16
This Warehouse dress is a real beauty. It has more than a nod to the beautiful structured lace dresses by Self Portrait and I believe stands alongside them with its head held high. A great formal summer option for weddings, christenings and other events. Add neutral or metallic accessories and you'll be ready for anything your summer social calendar can throw at you - 16th May '16
Trend: COLD SHOULDER
I don't care what the weather is doing, I'm just going to pretend it's spring and be done with it. This lovely little off-the-shoulder top from Warehouse will look equally lovely with jeans, skirts and shorts. Tuck it in if you need to lenghten your bottom half but do be careful if you have broad shoulders as this may make you look even broader. The cold shoulder look is everywhere this season and Warehouse and Zara are leading the pack in my opinion - 3rd May '16
This Whistles lace two-piece is just divine. The colour combination of the two shades of orange makes it feel very chic and the fact that it is a top and skirt rather than a dress makes the outfit much more versatile. Just wear the top with jeans or denim shorts for a casual look or team the skirt with a white shirt and heels for a smart day look or a simple navy tee and flat sandals for a perfect weekend outfit - 28th April '16
Stripes are always in the shops and every year they get a slight update. This time around stripes are bold and bright. Stripes are a great way to add a chic print into your wardrobe. The wider the stripe the more flattering so update your Breton top and go for a striped knitted dress. This dress from Topshop is a fun spring pick which I'll be layering over a denim shirt now and wearing on its own in the warmer months to come - 21st March '16
Updater: BOMBER JACKET
Bomber jackets are a big deal this spring and they are all over the High Street. As usual Zara are leading the way and I may have treated myself to this gorgeous black one. It is lovely and silky with beautiful cherry blossom embroidery. To avoid looking like a wall panel from a Chinese restaurant keep the rest of your outfit simple and let the jacket do the talking - 15th March '16
