It's Sale Time

This is one of my favourite times of the year as the Summer Sales always seem to arrive just in time for the warm weather (well, fingers crossed anyway).

However, sale shopping isn't can be a very stressful experience (yes, really). You inevitably end up buying something because it's cheap rather than whether you really like it or if it suits you.

Here are my top tips for keeping your sanity during the sales:

  • Shop online. It is so much easier than trying to wade through hundreds of items stuffed onto the rails in the shops. Most websites have excellent photography so you'll get a very good idea of what the item actually looks like and the website will probably show you how to style the piece. Bear in mind delivery times may be longer during sale periods and ALWAYS CHECK THE RETURNS POLICY.

  • Buy with future seasons in mind. Steer clear of that neon yellow string vest. Just because you saw it once in a magazine, it will not be something you will ever wear. Look for investment pieces or items that would normally be too expensive for you to consider. You can never go wrong with a good quality coat, a pair of wear-with-everything shoes or a well-fitting dress that makes you feel fabulous.

  • Make a wishlist. A lot of websites have the ability to create wishlists. If you do this throughout the year and add the pieces you like, you will have it all in one place once the sale starts. It will ensure you only buy things that you really like. Alternatively, make a list using Pinterest.

  • Ask yourself: Do I love it? Will I wear it? Is it worth the money?

  • Do a wardrobe MOT. Before you start your sale shopping, take a long hard look at your wardrobe and see if there are any pieces you really need. Do you need some new workwear? Have your basic tees and vests seen better days? Could you do with some new jeans given you wear them every day?

I hope this helps. Above all, have some fun and maybe try out a new colour to see if it brings out the best in you.
