Get Your Denim On

If Spring 2015 is going to be remembered for one thing it will be denim. Denim, denim and more denim. Every single designer seemingly sent denim down the runway at the SS15 fashion shows. This isn't just ordinary denim though. It is no longer just the fabric of jeans; denim has made the transition into wardrobe staple as a material choice for everything from tops and dresses to tailored trousers and skirts.

We've all got jeans in our wardrobe and finding the perfect pair is a whole other blogpost. Meanwhile, we'll focus on other denim items. Perhaps one of the most surprisingly versatile denim pieces is the denim shirt dress. This one from Warehouse can be worn as a dress on its own or add a striped top underneath for an alternative look. It also looks great as a denim coat over everything from dresses to trousers - and jeans if you're up for some double denim. Just make sure the wash of the jeans is in contrast to that of the coat. Once the sun decides to rear its beautiful head I shall be throwing on this denim skirt from J Crew. Again it looks great with stripes and I'll be finishing off my outfit with some white Superga plimsolls.

If you've ever wanted to channel your inner car mechanic, do it in denim. I absolutely love this jumpsuit from Atterley Road and I wear mine as much for nights out as I do for daytime. Wear with brogues or loafers and a bright coat for a casual daytime look and to smarten it up for evening add heels and a statement necklace. You can also replace the self-fabric belt with a snakeskin one for your own twist. A denim shirt has always featured in my wardrobe - I vividly remember the Levi's one I ate, breathed and slept in when I was 15 - and this season there are so many styles to choose from it's postively exhausting. The classic Western style is still the one I am drawn to but this cute sleeveless look from Comptoir des Cotonniers is a more grown-up option. It will look amazing with white in the summer but for now pop it under a blazer to get some denim in your wardrobe. And no denim round-up is complete without denim cut-off shorts. Save your Daisy Dukes for the beach and go for a longer Bermuda style for a chic daytime look. Add a white blazer and you'll almost get away with wearing them in the office.
